Project Overview
Managers in Iowa livestock operations have expressed need for training and education in employee management. Iowa State University Extension developed a workshop course that focused on informing and increase=ing managers´ skills in effective communication, motivation, and evaluation.
A three part workshop was offered in four locations. The workshops allowed for producers to work with other producers in a smaller group setting and learn the principles of employee management. The third session allowed producers to ask questions of one of the experts in the field.
Results from a post workshop survey and a six month survey indicate we achieved our objectvies.
In addition as an extension of the original project we completed a survey of Iowa farm operators with employees asking about wages and benefits offered to employees. The results of the survey updated information from a 2005 survey and are published in an ISU Extension publication that is mentioned later in this report.
