Project Overview
Cattle markets are a complex topic that involve high risk levels and variability. Beef producers in California have struggled with this topic for decades, with a historical lack of transparency and a disconnect between producers and packers that runs deep. The California Cattlemen’s Foundation held in-person workshops hosted by respected cattle market analysts to better educate producers about the marketing risk inherent in cattle markets and how to mitigate that inherent risk. The workshops demonstrably improved participants' understanding of cattle market fundamentals such as price discovery and determination and provided producers with strategies for utilizing market data to inform their cattle-marketing decisions.
