Project Overview
The Agricultural Management E-School has successfully marketed seven Internet-based home study courses to over 600 producers in the past four years. Evaluations have shown a high degree of satisfaction with this approach to adult learning, and a desire for additional subject matter related to agricultural risk management.
Three additional courses will be developed, which will address risk management strategies in livestock marketing, human resource management, and identity preservation of corn and soybeans.
The existing Financial Decision Making course was offered to Farm Service Agency credit programs clientele to satisfy their borrower education requirements. Forty-six FSA borrowers have completed the course requirements so far, and 85 have completed part of the requiements.
The existing Advanced Grain Marketing course was be extended with new 4 modules related to technical and fundamental forecasting techniques, new grain contracts, and USDA commodity programs.
New and existing courses have been aggressively marketed through both traditional methods and Internet sites. More thorough evaluation of both content and delivery methods will be conducted as enrollees complete each course. AMES courses are expected to be offered on-line for at least 5 more years.
