Project Overview

This project seeks three distinct outcomes: (1) to increase the awareness and understanding of intergenerational transfer issues faced by farm and ranch families, (2) to expose workshop participants to appropriate expert counselors, and (3) to have workshop participants complete a “Legacy Plan”. A series of four workshops will be conducted at two locations in each Colorado and Wyoming. The “A Lasting Legacy” course and companion workbook will be used to help participants discuss and plan for all aspects of a legacy transfer. These efforts build upon support from participant comments at the 2007 Ag Lender meetings in Colorado and on-going educational efforts by Extension professionals. Electronic personal response systems (clickers) will be used to collect anonymous information about participants’ experiences in their journey of completing a Legacy Plan. Polling results will be easily available to adjust programming materials and presentation styles as well as more accurately report student experiences.
