Project Overview
The Kansas City region offers a growing number of outlest for fresh, locally grown produce, value-added foods and meats. Individual, retail and institutional buyers seek access to new growers and producers and local products to diversify products lines. Specialilty crop growers, experiences farmers, small landowners and urban dwellers that seek to diversify earning potential or begin second careers lack access to relevant, reserach based educational programs.
This project allowed particpants to experience two hands-on workshop sereise that increased prodution and business devlepoment knowledge and abilities. 20 individuals participated in the Growing Growers production serices; learned new skills in speciality crop production, soil and insect/disease managment, plant propagation, season extension, equipment usage, post-harvest handling and salesmanship. 23 individuals participated in the Grow Your Farm course and increased their knowledge in business planning, goal and value identification, how to access opportunity, marketing and increased their knowledge of legeal components of farming and agricutlural sales.
