Project Overview

The project team developed resources related to health insurance and retirement as farm business owners and for employees within the operation as benefits. The team also developed resources to allow better farm operations to navigate the finding labor and a model employee handbook with sample language to use and explanations for why the operation should be included. The overarching goal was to provide resources to these operations to make better labor decisions that benefit them and their employees. Outreach was supplied through two workshops and a four-part webinar series. An online self-paced course was developed to allow the program to continue past completion.

We reached our target audience with all participants coming from one of the three groups selected. In all we got 21 participants for the in-person and webinars. The self-paced course will continue to attract producers well after the project ends.

In reviewing the project outcomes narrative, we have achieved many of the goals we set out from the start. The resources developed fill a critical need within our region for Extension outreach. The project team worked together to achieve these goals. Although attendance was low, we continue to promote the online course, and more will participate in the future.
