Project Overview

Commodity Challenge is an online grain marketing game designed to help producers gain experience and confidence developing and implementing their own marketing plan (www.commoditychallenge.com). Its unique feature is the use of real-time cash, futures and options quotes for grains.

In 2013 (the first year of operation), we started 125 games with over 4,000 players in 17 states. Games varied in length from 4 weeks to one year. Game were created for farmer marketing groups, private agribusiness companies, University and Community College classrooms, and for FFA/high school groups. Players and game leaders have access to buffet style curricula covering the basics of futures and options markets, basic pricing tools and advanced pricing tools. They also have access to videos on how to develop pre and post harvest marketing plans for their farms.

As an ongoing website and educational platform, Commodity Challenge promises to deliver and support marketing education for years.
