The goal of Rapid Response to Emerging Risks for Beginning
Farmers was to improve the resiliency of farmers who are underserved
by crop insurance and focused primarily on financial, legal and human risk
mitigation strategies for 555 specialty crop and livestock farmers in Southern,
MN and Western WI. We achieved the following results:
1. 56 Beginning farmers adopted risk mitigation and
resiliency strategies in readiness to apply for Whole Farm Revenue Protection (11 hours training, 35 hours 1-1 financial
advising, 1 1/2 hours webinar and 10 hours 1-1 consultation and written
information about WFRP, 20 hours financial resiliency plans reviewed by
established farmers)
2. 294 Beginning farmers reduced their legal risks for their
direct marketing business through (two written guides- 224 pages, 5 1/4 hours
webinars, 10 hours 1-1 calls and videoconferencing)
3. 205 Beginning, retiring farmers and non-operating
landowners reduced the risks of land access and transition to beginning farmers
(26 hours training, 40 hours 1-1 consultations, 2 farmer profiles, online
resources)
Specialty crop and livestock farmers received 142 hours of
training and 1-1 consultation to create financial resiliency through effective
record keeping systems, secure marketing contracts, land access and readiness
to enroll in Whole Farm Revenue Protection.
