Project Overview

This project was intended to help Missouri producers learn about and adapt to using some form of margin insurance. The project resulted in five regional workshops training dairy producers how to insure their income over feed cost margin. Training curriculum included the new farm bill margin insurance, Livestock Gross Margin (LGM)- Dairy, hedging through brokers, and risk management tools available from DFA Risk Management.

Producers who attended now understand how to use the margin management tools. They worked through examples that localize margin tools for their farm. They came away understanding the new farm bill margin insurance program and how they can augment that insurance via other methods.

Educational curriculum has been posted on the MU Dairy website (dairy.missouri.edu) for participants and others in the industry.

The project will improve the financial stability and sustainability of Missouri dairy farms.
