Project Overview

Three statewide Women and Agriculture conferences were held in Washington. More than 350 women attended and documented results that increased their ability to manage legal liability, develop marketing strategies and improve family relationships. This grant expands this method to educate women in 4 locations throughout the state. Because of the agricultural diversity, there is a need to work with women at different times of the year with more specialized topics. Small workshops, WECN technology and hands-on activities will address marketing, economic risk, business planning, financial management, legal liabilities, networking, mentoring and gender-specific farm management issues. 150 women in 4 locations will participate in a series of 4 sessions. Following the workshops 25 will develop business plans and utilize risk management tools (insurance, market analysis) to improve farm management. Three months later, 45 will adopt changes to reduce legal liabilities and 50 will make management changes to reduce economic risk.
