Project Overview
This project took a comprehensive approach to risk management for cattle and forage producers in Nebraska. Producers were presented with timely information on how to utilize existing and emerging risk management tools including those for marketing, cost of production, and forage production risk. Topics covered included, Rainfall Index-PRF, Annual Forage Insurance, LRP for cattle, FSA disaster programs (NAP, LFP, and LIP), and an introduction to futures and options. Six workshop programs, five presentations at three larger events, three webinars, and six peer-reviewed University Extension publications resulted from this project. A total of 214 producers documented attending one of the live program events with 72 of those attendees documenting commitment to implement what they had learned into their operation. A follow-up survey revealed that participants felt the workshops had improved their understanding of the material and a majority had implemented or were still considering implementing the information provided.
