Project Overview
This project addressed the financial and legal issues for agricultural operations in Nebraska to sustain risk linked with farm or ranch transition and environmental resiliency. Specifically, outcomes achieved by this project helped participants address strategic decision-making by analyzing financial issues impacting their operation, understanding effective strategies for operation transition, and evaluating legal implications for utilizing conservation incentives to improve environmental stewardship.
The target audience for this project included beginning, retiring, transitioning, or women producers and allied business professionals serving operations across Nebraska. Outreach for this project was delivered through 17 strategically located in-person/hybrid-delivered meetings lasting approximately three hours in length, reaching 378 participants. Supplemental and archived programs were made available via the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Center for Agricultural Profitability website and remain open to the general public as a resource.
Results achieved by participating in this outreach included: 53% enhanced risk management decisions involving financial issues influencing operations, land resources, cash rents, and rental arrangements; 78% implemented proper communication approaches or techniques involving family and business relationships; 41% advanced effective strategies for farm transition and succession to the next generation; and 65% developed strategic decision-making skills on legal or financial issues surrounding conservation incentives and management practices.
