Project Overview

This project provided funding to continue and enhance the successful program titled "Size Wise Financial Training for Pennsylvania Dairy Producers". This program offers training in basic farm financial recordkeeping using balance sheets, income statements, cash flow projections and farm business planning to young and beginning dairy farmers in the Plain Sect (i.e. Amish, Mennonite and Anabaptist).

The program was offered in a wider geographic area than the initial program. Data from past and current participants was summarized using FINBIN, which will allow for establishing realistic benchmarks and for tracking the progress of producer groups whom have participated in the program. This next phase of the program fully utilized the PA Dairy Tool to identify potential profit barriers on participant´s farming operations. These enhancements added to the breadth of training that participants received, and therefore increased the likelihood of success among participants.
