Project Overview
The topic covered by the project is Marketing Risk: Marketing Plans and Strategies. Methods include classroom trainings on marketing plans, technical assistance to develop and execute marketing plans, and promotion of results and recommendations. Beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers in Rhode Island collaborated with farmers market managers and Southside Community Land Trust to develop a joint marketing strategy for farm stands in three farmers markets. They participated in a local 4-session workshop series to plan and execute marketing strategies. Eleven urban farm youth interns also participated, conducting neighborhood outreach as part of the strategy. Project staff and farmers promoted the results of the collaboration at two regional conferences. A total of 51 participants learned how to better engage with market managers and potential customers in order to increase sales at farmers markets in urban food deserts.
