Project Overview

Grain marketers now have a decision aid that can enhance their grain marketing decisions. In striving to make profitable grain sales decisions, farmers face two major hurdles: selecting the appropriate sales method and proper timing of multiple sales decisions.

Previous RME projects have addressed the first hurdle by developing grain marketing materials designed to teach appropriate sales methods, including cash contracts, futures, and options on futures. The results have been outstanding.

This project addresses the other hurdle by developing a decision aid for the producerĀ“s marketing tool kit. The aid is designed to assist in selecting proper timing of grain marketing decisions using various pricing methods.

The decision aid is based upon commodity price and basis indicators derived from fundamental and technical analysis. Technical analysis indicators are be used to trigger entry and exit signals from sales positions.
