Project Overview

This project addressed issues of financial management to help farmers improve their farmsĀ“ financial management, assess funding and financing opportunities, and make sound financial decisions. We had 55 beginning, small, and limited resources producers, which make up a large percentage of the local farming population, participate in the workshops. Workshops covered: understanding and improving credit scores and traditional loans, benefits and tools for good financial record keeping, financial decision making, and alternative financing options. Through the series farmers learned skills to improve their record keeping, decision making, and to access traditional and nontraditional credit. Farmers who participated in the series were given 3 hours of additional one-on-one time with experts to help them begin to implement new strategies. The resources and tools were adapted and made available on-line to additional farmers. Within six months of completion of the project, farmers will have used the decision making and self-assessment tools to improve their financial management and assessed the best financing options for their business.
