Project Overview

Sheep producers in Colorado have new risk management tools such as Livestock Risk Protection, AGR-Lite, and Forage and Rangeland insurance products available. This project represented an effort to help producers learn about the new insurance products as well as how to strategically address risk in their operation. Our popular educational products the Lazy U Ranch Ag Survivor simulation and the Strategic Risk Management Process were used to present a stimulating, hands-on learning environment to help improve producer understanding of new insurance products, especially LRP-Lamb, and the role it could play in an overall strategic risk management plan. Three workshops were conducted in the state with a total of 14 participants in attendance. While attendance was disappointing, the feedback we received was very positive with 7 of 10 participants completing a post workshop questionnaire indicating a commitment to developing a written strategic risk management plan within the next 18 months.
