Project Overview

This project concerned farm and ranch (F&R) succession. F&R succession is associated with the following risks: Financial (asset management, business and strategic planning, and financial records and analysis), Legal (contracts and leases as well as personal and business liability), and Human (health, stress and wellbeing - interpersonal, family and business relationships - transition and estate planning).

This project helped our target audience, Kansas F&R families, to learn about and develop succession plans by offering: five regional succession planning awareness building seminar meetings, archived F&R succession topic webinars and other on-line resources, and a succession facilitator training workshop and service.

265 participants gained succession knowledge via regional producer meetings, People interested in farm and ranch succession also have the opportunity to learn about farm succession via the Planning for Farm and Ranch Succession website ( http://www.k-state.edu/kams/succession). 24 Extension agents, certified mediators, and attorneys received farm succession facilitation training. Currently, one family has contracted for succession planning facilitation, but more are anticipated.
