Project Overview

The Management Assessment Center for Farm Owners/Managers is a comprehensive review of competencies of farm managers necessary for effective and successful job completion based on their job description. Activities and simulations allow participants to demonstrate skills on nine job-related attributes: Communications, Managing Resources, Planning and Organizing, Empathy, Leadership, Teamwork, Decision Making/Judgment, Initiative and Creativity. Trained assessors evaluate participants as they engage in activities over two consecutive days. Participants receive verbal and written individual feedback reports from the assessors within four weeks of their assessment and together, develop a professional improvement plan to enhance their management skills. This program is offered to all farm owners and managers, with special interest to those owners/managers who are experiencing transition. The Assessment Center for Dairy Farmers began in 2004, this project will expand the center to all farm audiences and be adapted to fit college students desiring to own or manage a farm business.
