Project Overview
104 beginning and limited-resources female agripreneurs attending our face-to-face educational program increased their knowledge, skills and attitudes about enhancing their farm viability through improved risk management strategies, namely to (a) develop and use simple financial management tools to conduct farm financial analyses; (b) identify and meet farm and/or food safety requirements; (c) develop and use a business plan; and (c) partner with other producers to share best practice and improve profitability. A matching on-line curriculum targeted 48 additional participants. A companion project website provided supporting materials for participants. The face-to-face education program involved 6 modules conducted in 3-4 hour sessions over 10 weeks in 6 targeted locations in West Virginia, and was delivered through workshops; hands-on and on-line activities; discussions and networking opportunities. At least 52 participants received follow-up coaching/mentoring support to adopt at least one recommended risk management action in their agribusinesses within four months post-training.
