Project Overview

The project focused on providing risk management education, additional resources, and support to women agricultural entrepreneurs in Connecticut. Four areas were addressed: business planning; zoning and other local regulations; access to financial, crop insurance and related resources and marketing. A secondary focus was to expand the Connecticut Women’s Agricultural Network (CT-WAgN).

Over 300 women are now active in CT WAgN. CT WAgN participants were the target audience; CT-WAgN´s Steering Committee guided the project and educational activities. Relationships with other agricultural service providers were strengthened through collaborative programming.

A conference, workshops, on-farm twilight meetings, on-line resources, a listserv, webpage and newsletter offered learning in varied formats state-wide, plus the opportunity to network with women agricultural producers and service providers, and value-added agricultural producers and buyers, such as chefs. These opportunities allowed 197 participants to improve farm risk management practices and explore the diversity of enterprises operated by CT-WAgN members. (111 provided evaluation information.)
