This project resulted in the development and delivery of resources for livestock producers to create plans for managing livestock, particularly cattle, through drought. We addressed topics that included forage and livestock insurance, tax implications for the sale of a large number of livestock, strategies for strategically managing livestock production, wildfire risk, wildfire management, and wildfire abatement, along with their respective and collective financial consequences. The overall goal of this project was for producers to learn the information necessary to take a proactive approach toward drought mitigation.
COVID prevented planned in-person trainings. In lieu of those trainings, four online, one-hour courses were held addressing each of the four subject matter areas. Additionally, participants were provided with print resources that accompanied the material. An online e-learning course was developed and is available on AgriLife Learn. Along with the four, one-hour courses specifically promoted and presented as part of this grant effort, project faculty participated in multiple county presentations detailing course material developed for this project.
