Project Overview
This project has been highly successful in delivering educational programs and one-on-one technical assistance on marketing, bookkeeping, software, and risk management planning to Vermont farmers. Under this grant, we taught nine classes at workshops or conferences, held six webinars, provided one-on-one assistance to 94 farmers, and conducted six professional development sessions. These activities have all been focused on increasing farmers’ abilities to manage market-related and financial-related risk, and increasing farm advisors skills in various types of risk management planning.
The impacts of this project have been significant. Of the farmers who received one-on-one assistance, 100% of those who responded to the evaluation believe that the assistance will help make their business more profitable, and 94% have already begun to implement changes or have completed making improvements in their business. Participating farmers reported positive changes in their business management skills, with 0% reporting that they felt highly or very highly skilled in business management before receiving assistance, and 94% feeling highly or very highly skilled after! Of the service providers who received professional development, 93% reported that their skills in identifying and addressing business risk have improved as a result of the trainings offered under this grant.
