Project Overview
Human resource risk for Vermont dairy businesses can be managed through improved human resource (HR) management. Vermont dairy producers are concerned about the ability to develop middle managers on their farms to help maintain a productive, stable and committed workforce. Producers are interested in growing middle managers from within their organization instead of hiring a manager right from the start; hiring people with the capabilities to fill management positions in the future and training those folks so they grow with the business.
We worked with middle managers as well as farm owners on VT dairy farms - both American and Hispanic employees participated - to develop/improve participants’ HR management skills through regional workshops. The Developing Hispanic Leaders Seminar was presented in Spanish with a separate break-out session for American speaking farm owners. The two-day workshops were held in four central locations for participant ease.
The workshops were collaborative and allowed full participation between the audience and the presenters. Farm owners attended part of the Developing Hispanic Leaders Seminar along with their Hispanic employee(s). We maximized learning and implementation through blended learning as well as more short sessions. We had 85 project participants! Well above our anticipated number of 40.
Number of Participants: 85
