Project Overview

The Managing Marketing and Business Risks for Urban and Non-Traditional Farmers project provided educational information, outreach and  risk management education training to Urban and Non-Traditional Farmers in Texas.  A special segment of the population to be targeted will include veterans who are new to and/or entering agriculture.

The targeted farmers operated small scale farming operations with a majority of them being in the greater Houston Texas area.   These produces grow a number of Specialty and Ethnic Crops to be sold in the local community.  Many are through direct sales at the farm gate and through farmers markets.

Many of these non-traditional and urban farmers had never been exposed to this type of education.  A majority of these urban, veteran and non-traditional farmers are relatively new to agriculture and have entered with little to no background in Business Planning, Marketing or other risk management factors.

Number of Participants: 438
