Project Overview
Interest in value-added dairy products has increased, both with consumers and producers. Northeast dairy producers are situated near several major metropolitan areas, providing excellent marketing opportunities. This program educates new and existing dairy producers on value-added dairy product opportunities, enterprise decision making, equipment and capital needs, marketing of value-added dairy products, and regulations concerning production and labeling. Education was accomplished through a the development of a written publication, a series of four webinars utilizing Adobe Acrobat Connect (formerly Breeze), and a two-day workshop held in collaboration with the Penn State Dept. of Food Science. An online course (via Angel, an PSU online course software) was developed and launched in Spring 2009. The webinars incorporated industry speakers. 10 interested individuals participated in the webinars and we expect more to go through the online course. The 2-day workshop, held in February 2009, attracted a total of 18 unigue participants.
