Project Overview
2006 marked the 5th consecutive year of the successful Women in Agriculture conference in Delaware. This conference continues to serve as an institution where women can learn new skills and/or improve their management skills for their agribusinesses and their families.
A regional, day and a half conference, collaborating with the Extension Services of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Delaware State University and the University of Maryland, offered women in the region who are involved in many areas of agriculture, an opportunity to meet in an educational environment geared toward them and to participate in concurrent workshops in the five areas of risk management - for example, marketing, crop insurance, value-added agriculture, estate planning, conflict management and communication.
The Conference Keynote speaker, Rebecca Long Chaney, shared her story of experiences, challenges and opportunities that she faced during a year of world travels with a last stop in the Australian Outback. Rebecca, and her husband, Lee, found themselves immersed in the culture and agriculture of the Outback, working, making friends, and having experiences that would ultimately change their lives forever.
Following the Conference, there was a small amount of money still available from the grant award. The extra money was used to support two Women in Ag Newsletter mailings, and a small balance was applied toward the 2007, one-day, Women in Ag Conference.
