Project Overview

This project is intended to educate agricultural producers and landowners about wind turbine leases. The project objective is to help participants with the risk management decision of entering into a wind turbine lease. North Dakota is ranked first in the nation in wind energy potential by the American Wind Energy Association, with a potential capacity of 138,400 megawatts. Currently there are 12 wind farms online in the state with a capacity of 178 megawatts. To date, three more wind farms are under construction and six more are proposed.

Workshops are planned in locations near the proposed wind farms. A wind energy history and background will be presented. Representatives from the local wind farms would be invited to present information on their project. Experts will present economic, legal and liability issues. A question and answer period will be provided.

Attendance is estimated at 400.
