Project Overview

This project involving collaborators from all New England states delivered 26 workshops for 792 participants from September 2004 through August 2008. In addition, the program resulted in project collaborators discussing farm transfer issues with 85 families. One part of our program offered reimbursement of professional services was utilized only by 21 families primarily due to participants appreciating the educational program and not wanting to take funds for personal professional services. With prudent budget management and unexpected contributing funds from collaborating states, we stretched our original 2 year budget to 4 years. The workshops covered family communication as well as estate planning, business models, and we developed a section on Medicaid and healthcare challenges. Evaluation results indicated over 90% were satisfied with the workshops and showed significant gains in knowledge by participants. Material from workshops and available resources are listed on Farm Transfer Network of New England website.
