Project Overview

This project will improve the risk bearing capacity of young and beginning farmers through comprehensive risk management education, business plan development, and intergenerational farm transfer planning. Participants will engage in an initial conference focused on developing a business plan, increasing their understanding of financial ratios/statements and their utilization in risk analysis and mitigation, and successful management of interpersonal relationships to accomplish farm ownership and management succession. Risk management tools such as crop insurance will be addressed in additional workshops. This project is unique in that after the initial conference it will provide ten modules of an online course in farm business plan development with ongoing mentoring by professional lending staff. Completion of this online course will result in each participant formulating their own comprehensive farm business and risk management plan that is robust, realistic, and bankable.
