Project Overview

This project taught dairy consultants a systematic approach to drill down to the cause of the bottleneck(s) identified as limiting dairy profitability. Through four two-day sessions held in various regions of Pennsylvania and a one day finance session, 62 consultants learned how to successfully use the PA Dairy Drill Down Tools to identify the cause of a dairy operation´s bottleneck. The sessions addressed: finance, reproduction, milk quality and udder health and milk yield and components. Additionally, two one-day workshops taught 12 consultants how to use the DHIA Data Analysis Tools to identify groups of problem cows. As a result of this training, The PA Dairy Tool and Drill Downs are a component of Pennsylvania´s Center for Dairy Excellence´s program with Target Teams. Producers and their consultants will run the PA Dairy Tool, one to two drill downs and then follow-up with the PA Dairy Tool to evaluate impact.
