Project Overview

The project for 2012-13 continued our farm transfer work in New England with events in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New York for 214 participants. This program conducted 6 day-long workshops on farm transition, 3 small sessions in Vermont, a training session for farm business plan writers, and contributed to a training workshop for farm advisers in conjunction with American Farmland Trust. Workshops include a session on Medicaid that attracted great reviews. We find that concern over health care is of great concern among elderly farmers. In addition, we produced 2 new videos for our library, bringing the total to 26 videos. The new videos for 2013 include 1 farmer testimonial of a non-family transfer of a farm market and a video concentrating on liability insurance needs for new farmers. We wrapped up the project in December, with a TV show on our last farm video in early January. Total viewers to our TTF video library for 2013 were 684 with 3,322 lifetime hits. About 68% of viewers are women, with more than 42% ages 55-64. Our TTF videos were displayed at the National Extension Risk Management Education Conference.
