Project Overview

Estate planning/succession planning is a particularly hard topic for farm families due to the eventual transfer of the farm. The goal of this project was to provide a discussion starter for farm families by videotaping families who shared their goals, the process taken from family discussions to legal documentation, the outside resources they used and how they overcame their biggest hurdle during the planning. Due to the 24/7 access of the website, farm families viewed the real-life stories of how other farm families discussed estate planning/succession planning when it was convenient for them. These stories and accompanying publications were used as a discussion starter with farm families on their own or with a professional either during a workshop or during follow-up with the family.
