Project Overview

Know Your Numbers, Know Your Options is a financial risk management program targeting
farm and ranch women giving them the ability to evaluate their farm and ranch operations in a
period of lower revenues. This program was delivered in Illinois and South Dakota using the
Annie's Project methodology of small groups, and dynamic interaction with qualified instructors
vetted by Annie's Project-Education for Farm Women (APEFW). Each state implemented
three programs, a series of four meetings, with 47 farm or ranch women attending.
Upon completion these women were better prepared to examine their own balance
sheet, income statements and cash flows for comparing their own numbers to established and
selected financial benchmarks as defined by the Farm Financial Standards Council. Also
included in this program was education for improving record keeping skills using
QuickBooks, and a lesson/discussion about farm/ranch leasing and adjustments needed to
contain costs through low income periods.
