Project Overview

Our objective to conduct farm transfer workshops in New England and West Virginia was a success with 8 workshops in West Virginia where little work had been done to date on farm transition. In New England, 4 workshops were held; however, others were canceled due to low registration.

The project ended with 673 total participants including 608 participants at 12 workshops including one highly rated workshop for 60 attorneys conducted by Jesse Richardson in West Virginia. Cooperating Extension specialists met/consulted with members of an additional 65 farm families on transition issues through a farm visit or phone call. Participants indicated increased knowledge and understanding of farm transition issues and procedures. In addition, participants indicated intentions for future actions including discussion of transition activities with family members and seeing an attorney.

In continuing education for educators and producers nationally, a website of 29 videos produced by past NERME funding drew 1140 hits from across the country.

Number of Participants: 673
