Project Overview
Business managers often utilize industry specific metrics to gauge what enterprises to start, maintain and, grow. Those farmers that direct market their products are at a management-disadvantage due to the paucity of data for this industry sector. There are no contemporary financial and operational guidelines that can be referenced. This project surveyed all forms of direct farm marketers with a focus on collecting, and then summarizing, information on the personnel, facility, technology, products and promotions in use today. The state-wide Pennsylvania Retail Farm Market Association directors worked in the capacity of a steering committee and pilot survey test audience. Their depth of knowledge in this field kept this project where it will benefit retail farm marketers. The audience credibility (of the PaFarm board) was benefitial in promoting and securing project participation. Information summaries and analysis will be posted on the web and made available to copy. In addition, several meeting type presentations were made to increase outreach.
