Project Overview

Legal issues and liability surrounding farming activities continues to increase as we find ourselves farming in more populated areas with larger equipment and more dollars involved in a farm business. Farmers are required to be well versed in a growing number of areas and knowledgeable about an increasing number of regulations. Regulations farmers were once exempt from; no longer appear to be the case today.

Three day-long workshops were held in three Northern Ohio counties, Robert Moore of Wright Law Firm and Steven Plummer of Tri-State Transportation addressed topics related to business entities and trucking compliance as well as the liability concerning these topics. Discussion included what tools are available and how to use the tools to manage risk. Specific issues included but were not limited to: farm/personal liability, asset holding, tax issues as related to business entities, truck licensing, regulations for in state and out of state transportation. Many individual questions were addressed at each workshop, helping to make the workshops more meaningful to the participants.
