Project Overview
Through this project Northeast farmers, primarily from VT, MA, & NY, increased their knowledge of effective pricing strategies for direct markets and limited their vulnerability to price variability. Nearly 950 people, primarily from the Northeast, used the project´s web-based pricing tools and resources, which included crop enterprise budget templates, fact sheets, links, and an improved online direct market price reporting system. Of those, 110 farmers contributed to and routinely used the online price reporting system. Additionally, 187 farmers participation in pricing workshops, webinars, small-group clinics, and mentoring sessions where learned how to factor costs of production and market conditions into their pricing strategies. As of the project´s conclusion, 29 farmers had reported taking steps to develop pricing, product mix and/or placement strategies for at least one product or enterprise with the goal of reducing price risks and improving farm economic performance.
