Project Overview

AgBiz Professionals is a blended learning approach to professional development for farm managers. It complements programs such as AgBiz Masters which reachs young and beginning farmers, and AnnieĀ“s Project which targets women farmers.

Year one of AgBiz Professionals consisted of three one-day foundational seminars addressing: human risk, market risk, and financial risk. The seminars were conducted simultaneously at 6 locations throughout Pennsylvania linked by videoconference technology. AgChoice Farm Credit and Penn State Extension professionals colloborated to deliver the program.

Total farmer attendance in the program was sixty-seven, other attendees included local facilitators from AgChoice and Penn State and are not included in the total. All three sessions received positive evaluations from participants. Question and answer sessions were especially strong, the conversation flowed easily across sites using the videoconference technology. Participants even felt comfortable using the technology to ask questions of participants at other sites.

AgBiz Professionals will continue in 2012-13 with a stronger set of agribusiness partners. We will build on the strong support of year one participants and the effective teaching and discussion methods we learned in the initial program year.
