Project Overview

This project addressed issues of financial management and credit access to help farmers improve their farmsĀ“ record keeping practices, assess funding and financing opportunities, and make sound financial decisions. 167 Massachusetts beginning, small, and limited resources producers learned new strategies to improve business health and prepare for farm financing. We conducted three workshops in Southeast, Central, and Western Massachusetts covering: strategies for financial record keeping, financial decision making, financing options, and strategies for applying and securing farm credit. We produced and posted three short educational videos for farmers online on accessing credit and growing their businesses. The videos featured farmers who have successfully used credit to enhance their businesses. We also hosted and recorded a webinar featuring a new Farm Financial Calendar Tool for farmer producers to improve their financial management throughout the year. We, along with project partners, provided additional 1-1 technical assistance to 31 farmers seeking to improve financial management. Farmers gained skills in record keeping, financial decision making and improved financial management by exploring diverse financing options for business growth.
