Project Overview

This project consisted of 2 parts, conducting a survey of past program participants and conducting 12 educational programs in 2009-2010.

An evaluation of previously funded NECRME funded New England Farm Transfer/business transition programs (30 workshop for more than 1000 participants since 2004) concludes more than $230 million in farm assets have been protected by a farm business/farmland transfer plan. A post survey of participants (38% return) indicates that more than 90% have discussed farm transfer issues, 73% have updates their will, 69% have seen an attorney, 59% have identified a successor, 49% have a farm business transition plan in place and 56% have a land transfer plan in place. Comments indicate the difficulty of starting the process but many state the best advice is to “just get started.”

In 2009 and 2010, we conducted an additional 12 programs for 266 participants. Evaluations indicated gains in education and high satisfaction with the workshops.
