Project Overview

This project will build on a solid foundation of grain risk management and marketing education conducted by the Idaho Barley Commission during the last four years (two years funded by WCRME). More than 260 grain producers participated in commission-sponsored workshops in the past two years and more than 730 producers in last four years. This year we will focus on a combination of basic and advanced educational workshops offered in at least six (6) locations throughout the state, focusing on crop management, alternative crops and markets, market plan development and execution, market analysis and outlook, cash and futures pricing tools and crop insurance. We will also develop and distribute a direct mail newsletter to more than 4,500 producers in the state (potentially as many as 7,500) on risk management strategies. This approach of hands-on training and direct mail information tailored specifically to Idaho grain marketing situations has proven to be a successful formula in meeting our targets in previous years.
