Project Overview

Project conducted business and marketing training for aspiring and beginning Latino farmers in Massachusetts. Workshops were held in Nuestras Raices facilities in Holyoke, MA. Planned workshops in Eastern MA and northern CT were not held; instead, participants from those areas traveled to Holyoke.

Workshops were led by experienced Nuestras Raices staff and were bilingual Spanish/English. An additional class was also offered in Russian in nearby Westfield MA. Technical assistance was provided by Nuestras Raices staff and bilingual farm business planning expert Tim Clegg from Solutions CDC.

As a result 65 beginning and aspiring farmers received basic orientation, 25 farmers developed business plans and implemented at least one new risk management strategy. As a result, participating farmers had access to new markets and over 10% increase in profits. 80% are still following their micro business plan.
