Sixty-six farm women (i.e., farm families) completed this course. They were introduced to effective strategies to engage both family and non-family members about the process of farm transition planning, creating and implementing an overall strategy to move their farm or ranch business from one generation to the next.
As a key factor in human resource risk management, farm and ranch women analyzed, developed, and implemented steps that addressed four major transition planning components: 1) Succession – transferring knowledge, skills, labor, management, control, and ownership between generations; 2) Business – developing goals, strategies, and actions that guide business growth; 3) Estate – managing one’s assets within his/her lifetime in anticipation of effectively transferring land and others assets to heirs and/or business partners; 4) Retirement – designing an enjoyable and productive time in life. Coursework consisted of five, 3-hour sessions, offered by experienced Extension educators at seven CCE sites in the tradition of Annie’s Project methodology.
